Luon Cave – One Of The Famous Caves in Halong Bay

When it comes to the topic of specialties in Halong Bay, people always mention about its various range of natural caves. Among those caves, Luon Cave is one of the destinations that I would love to return.

Luon Cave

Luon Cave (or also called the Tunnel Cave) is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Ha Long Bay. Although Ha Long Bay possesses a wide range of caves, each cave has its own distinguished beauty. Luon Cave is not an exception.
Location and Transportation:
Located in the Northeast of Bo Hon Island, Luon Cave is surrounded by many famous tourist attractions such as Sung Sot Cave (or so-called the Surprising Cave) with only 1 kilometer far from it, Con Rua Islet (or also known as the Turtle Islet) sitting in front of the cave, and the Sky Gate located on the right side of the Luon Cave.

Moreover, this is also a convenient place for travelers to visit since the Luon Cave is only 14 kilometers far from Bai Chay Harbor (or also called the Bai Chay Tourist Wharf) to the south. To enter the Cave, visitors can go on a tour, in this case, the kayaks/ small boats are already prepared for you.
The Cave’s information
According to geologists, we can divide the caves in Halong Bay into 2 categories: Dry Cave and Water Cave. Luon Cave belongs to the second type. From a far distance, Luon Cave has an arch shape which makes it look like an enormous upside-down bowl with a length of 60 meters and the width of 4 meters. The total area of the cave is nearly 1-kilometer square.

Depending on the level of the tide, the height of the cave fluctuates between 2.5 to 4 meters. Therefore, using small boats or kayaks is the only way to enter the cave.
What can be seen inside Luon Cave?
Going through the door of the cave, travelers can see for themselves the stalagmites and the stalactites hanging down from the ceiling. This explains why people named it the Luon Cave. Inside Luon Cave, visitors are able to observe the biodiversity of the cave with many plants and animals, in which ferns, orchids, and wild golden monkeys are especially well-developed.

Kayaking Luon Cave

On the cliffs, there are also a lot of fossils that indicate the appearance of human and a deep freshwater valley years ago.  The overall scenery inside the cave is very picturesque and harmonious. Visitors can hear the voice of the birds as well as the sound of dropping water while contemplating the stunning stalagmites and stalactites as well as watching the greenish ferns and the white orchids growing on the wall of the cave.

Best time to visit Luon Cave
The best time to take a trip to the Luon Cave is in the summer. When the sun rises. Imagining the combination of sparkling water, the shining stalagmites and stalactites, and the scenery in which all things and creatures in the cave are waking up. At dawn, the sunlight dies the whole scenery a purplish orange color, the atmosphere suddenly becomes so serene.

Some nights when the moon shines brightly, the surface of the lake is alight with the silver moonlight, the scenery becomes sparkling as if we’re covered with fairy dust.

Due to all the reasons above, in recent years, the Luon Cave has become one of the most favorite destinations, which attracts thousands of visitors each year. If you haven’t witnessed the beauty of this cave, then hurry up and visit the famous Luon Cave right now!
